Why Community Matters

Let’s talk about what we all need more of: Community. Here’s why: we’re created for it. We’re not created to go down the entrepreneur road alone. As entrepreneurs, our ideas, our creativity, + our inspiration comes from anywhere + everywhere, but sometimes we forget to utilize the most valuable resource of all: each other.

I wonder if this strikes a chord with you…

“My business is up + running, + hot damn, it’s finally bringing in some steady income. I don’t feel like a newbie anymore, + yet I’m overwhelmed + still feeling overworked with everything there is to get done, every single day. I’m doing it all by myself, which feels lonely because it is! At the end of the day, when I’ve literally worked for hours, it seems like I’ve gotten everything done that HAS to be done, but I haven’t gotten anything done that I WANT to do to actually move the needle forward. I’m ready to scale my business but I have no idea where to start or how to carve out the time to make it happen. I’m carrying all the responsibility all alone. I wish I had a group of boss babes who “get it” to bounce my 1 million ideas off of. How the heck does everyone else do it? HELP!”

>> If this sounds familiar, stick around, because you may have just found your tribe. <<

That was an actual entry from my journal entitled: OMG I STARTED A BUSINESS. WTF WAS I THINKING? Of course, this moment was in the prime of my total desperation, nearing burn-out, + certainly before I experienced + understood the tremendous value of community.

We know how hard it can be to actually attend live events, + activities in your community, + in general put yourself out there. And now, more than ever, we have access to community + information in multiple ways. The internet makes so many things possible! You don’t have to live in a major city to be + feel connected to others.

An online community can provide you instant support without taking up more of your time to get “cute” + commute.

The online world makes it a lot easier to find your people that you really connect with and get what you’re going through as a business owner. AND why not join a community to learn from each other's mistakes, share resources, tips of the trade, knowledge, create connections, + learn new skills?

Community is a beautiful, + VALUABLE thing people. So much so, that there's a whole list of reasons why you need it to scale + elevate your business + life. Being a part of a community means:

  • You don’t have to be alone anymore.
  • You get multiple like-minded people to bounce ideas off of without needing a business partner.
  • You get access to people in your industry who understand the insane amount of time, energy, + effort you put in daily.
  • You get fresh perspectives on how to run a business from people other than your mom (who doesn’t own a business).
  • You get a peer group to work through your challenges + support you emotionally to move the needle forward.
  • You can give your friends + family a break from all the talk about work (which you love to obsess over, no shame).
  • You get to be a part of something bigger than just you to give + receive.
  • Accountability, one of the most powerful resources.
  • New skills + resources.
  • A deeper understanding of other industries by creating relationships.
  • On-demand feedback to move forward without getting stuck or hung up by not finding the answer when you need it.
  • Validation. On #allthethings.
  • + so much more!

Sounds pretty great, right? So what happens when you don’t have a community?

  • You limit your creative outlets + sources of inspiration.
  • You spend countless hours working out systems + ideas that may already exist.
  • You create your own (often harmful) narrative around traumatic experiences, failure, + rejection.
  • You are more susceptible to stress + it’s negative effects. Girl, bye.
  • You feel lonely, oh so lonely.
  • You’re likely to burn out faster.
  • You miss out on some super fab collaboration opportunities.
  • You have to rely on your mirror for pep talks.
  • You have less motivation + persistence.
